"AL QAEDA ON THE ARABIAN PENINSULAR" MAY BE EMPLOYING EGYPTIANS TO ENTRAP GAY MEN.
GayEgypt.com Exclusive 13 June 2004
News reports regarding the kidnapping of Paul M Johnson have ignored the false claims posted on the Al Qaeda Sawt Al Jihad (Voice of the Jihad) website asserting that the man was "queer" and they have done so from the best motives.
There is absolutely no evidence that the claims are true and it is almost certain that the label "queer" has been used merely as an emotive reaction to events earlier this year at Abu Ghaib prison near Baghdad. The caption in Arabic beneath the copy of his passport shown in the image above reads "The queer's passport."
However, a number of important but worrying points arise. First, the kidnappers use Egyptian terminology suggesting that Egyptians are involved, if not in the kidnapping, then atleast behind the website. They use the street word "alkh" meaning submissive gay rather than "shaz" for pevert. The term "shawaz" ( plural ) was used widely in the Arab press to denounce the perpetrators of abuses at Abu Ghaib. But we stress again this is not evidence even that Al Qaida believed the man was gay - Instead they are attempting to exceed even the horrific humiliation doled out by American prison authorities by labelling the man as "queer," possibly prior to subjecting him to sexual abuse.
However, we cannot ignore the possibility that Al Qaeda or "The Voice of Jihad from Al Qaeda on the Arabian Peninsular", as this particular group likes to describe itself, have employed an internet monitoring group to entrap gays in Riyadh, Jeddah and other Saudi cities. We stress there is nothing to suggest that Paul Johnson himself was caught in this way and the circumstances, particularly his high profile as an engineer working on Apache helicopters, indicate that he was infact entraped some other way. But the wording of the messages from Al Qaeda, indicate that they may well be thinking about new "Egyptian" methods of entrapment. People should be forwarned and prepared.
Ex-pats shouldn't make the mistake of believing that there are certain red lines Al Qaeda would not cross and that they would not stoop to posting messages on gay bulletin boards on any of numerous internet websites. We are today posting a warning on our Saudi gay bulletin board. Westerners in Saudi Arabia should recall Muhammad Atta's writings advising new recruits that they could take up the "degenerate ways" of whatever culture they needed to work in, in order to carry out the "work of Allah."
As Egyptians this tactic would come almost naturally to them, as Egyptian newspapers have been full of articles about the internet entrapment of gays for the last three years. The Al Qaeda honeytrap may not even say he is Arab. He might well pretend to be a westerner or an Asian man in order to reassure the otherwise cautious.
BRITISH AIRWAYS PULL OUT "TROLLEY DOLLIES" FROM OVERNIGHT RESTS IN SAUDI ARABIA.
Posted 13 June 2004.
B.A. Cabin crews, some of whom have a reputation ( no doubt much exaggerated ) in the British media for seeking fun, frivolity and internet dating on their short intermissions from their hard onboard work schedules, will not now stay overnight inside Saudi Arabia. It's not clear whether the initiative came from B.A. employees, senior B.A. staff or from Government advice.
