The Egyptian Police force have a bad reputation for corruption and, though you are less likely to witness it, torture. If you try to enter a hotel lobby with an Egyptian friend do not be surprised to find your friend being taken aside by police "guards" and asked to pay baksheesh and it is also possible that if you turn your back for just a few moments your friend will suddenly disappear in a police van. Please be very careful when there are police around..
